First Family BBQ of the Summer

The pool is finally ready, and it's going to get it's first taste of having some serious use today.  Sure, Peanut and Jelly have swam in it a couple of times, Butter's swam in it once... but today, there will be about 9 people swimming all at the same time.

Just two days after having three teeth pulled, and my face still looking like I've had a round or two with Mike Tyson, I'm hosting my first family BBQ.  Call me stupid.. which I probably am... but I've been waiting a long time for this.

Of course, it figures that last night I had the WORST night's sleep.  Since having my teeth out, I haven't sneezed once.  NOT ONCE.  Which is good, because I was terrified I'd tear something if I started sneezing.  Well, last night, I guess my body decided to make up for lost time... and I kept having sneezing fits.  The pain from my teeth wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be, but it was driving me nuts.  My face, apparently, didn't like it much because it's nice and swollen this morning.  A lot more swollen than it was yesterday.  It's pretty tender this morning, but I'm about to get an icepack to it so hopefully that will help.

Anywho, the lack of sleep last night isn't really too much cause for concern.  Being that I've slept so much since Thursday, I don't think it's going to affect me that much today.

Yesterday, my mom called and asked if I'd be up to having them over for the day.  Of course, you have to understand that it's not just my mom and my dad... it's also my sister, my niece, my nephew, my brother (who's already here), and two foster children.  Yes.  That's eight people.  So, with my five, that makes thirteen people all at my house today.  Peanut may be going to stay with a friend, so that will eliminate one person... but a dozen people is still quite the hand full.

But, now I have the space to entertain.  I have the patio where the adults can sit and visit while they're not swimming.  I have a nice big back yard for the kids to play in when they're not swimming.  And the kids all have their own rooms so that they can entertain the kids that are visiting after everyone is dried off and tired of being outside.

Can you tell that I'm excited?  I know that it sounds like I'm probably bragging a little... I'm not trying to.  I'm just trying to share my enthusiasm for finally having a house that I'm proud of and that can accommodate my huge family.

The part that wasn't so thrilling was the cost of all the food and drinks.  My parents are going to bring over some ribs to grill, but the rest was on me.  Which is how I expect it when I'm hosting people at my house.  But, by the time I buy enough hotdogs, hamburgers, buns, sides, plates, cups, napkins, and beverages for that many people - I've easily spent a week's worth of grocery money on one barbecue. But I figure it's a small price to pay to have the chance to spend quality time with my family.

Well, I better get around and put my behind in the shower.  I also need to do a quick once over with the broom.. and make sure the house is in it's best condition.

Not the most fun read today... but it's what I've got.

Have a great Saturday!

Jo
