What is Fat Woman Bootcamp?

It's Monday.  The start of a new week, and the official start day of my new plan: Fat Woman Bootcamp.

Since posting about starting, I've had one or two people ask me what Fat Woman Bootcamp is - so I figured what better way to start the week without a laid out description of what I want to do.

In a nutshell, Fat Woman Bootcamp is the pet name I've given to getting my ass back on the saddle and really buckling down on losing weight and getting healthy...again.  It's all about going back to the basics on what I did to start my journey - and giving it everything I have.

In a not-so-nutshell, it comes down to this...

Last year, when I started this journey, I signed up for a bootcamp.  It was something I didn't think I could do - but tried it anyway...because I was serious about getting in shape.  I finished the bootcamp with a sense of accomplishment, pride, and strength that I'd never felt before.  I was able to do all of those things I didn't think I could do - and then some.  I want to feel that again - but don't have the $100 to shell out to go back to the bootcamp I attended.  So, I figured I'd try my own....not sure if it'll work - but I have to try.

In bootcamp, I learned a lot.  I learned that I had to log my food, pay attention to portions, break my meals into 1 part protein with 2 parts carbs.  I also learned that cardio exercise is great, but has to be paired with strength training in order to really burn fat - and help build lean muscle.  More importantly, I learned to never doubt myself - as long as I set my mind on something, I could make it happen.

That's where I'm going with this new leg of my journey - I'm not going to doubt myself.

So, what exactly am I going to do for Fat Woman Bootcamp?

First, I'm going to focus on my achievements - rather than failures. To do that, I have decided to not make "goals"...that really sets me up for failure if I don't reach them.

My plan is to get into bootcamp mentality - and to do that, I really have to do the following...
  • Plan my meals
  • Stick to a ratio of 1 protein: 2 carbs per meal
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Get some kind of cardio/ strength training in 3-5 times a week
I know they sound like goals - but they're not.  They are guidelines.  I know in order to have accomplishments - I have to start with a foundation...those are my foundations.  I have to have some idea of what I'm going to do...so that's what that is.

I've decided to start today - even though I've been kinda doing it since Saturday.  I'm excited, ready, and full of determination.

Again, I'd love to have some support.  I have noticed a lot of crickets chirping around here, lately.  Maybe it's because I've been so wishy washy with my plans - and success.  Although, that's when I need the support the most.  Sometimes just reading a "keep it up" or "I'm rooting for you" boosts my motivation ten fold.  Seeing hardly any comments or Twitter responses is very disheartening.  I'm trying - really, I am.

OK - time to get to it.

Till next time. ;)

  1. I try really hard to comment when I can. With summer break here for me it's harder to get online because I have 4 extra kids here during the day!

I know you are going to rock the heck out of the Fat Woman Bootcamp and I'm totally on board. Planning meals / tracking / water intake / cardio 3 - 5 times per week - I am totally on board!

Mind if I steal your graphic and write about it later in the week on my blog?

  3. I sometimes don't comment because I feel a bit of a fraud having only just started (10 weeks now, when does only just started end and become just what I do?!) and sometimes because I read in a rush and mean to come back later.

Your plan sounds so much like what I need to be doing right now. I have planned my food for the week and planned my workouts. I just need to stick to one and get off my butt to do the other. I am right there with you at Fat Woman Bootcamp. There must be something in the air because I have decided to stop myself going way off track as of today.

I've lost 16 lbs. on weight watchers, but I keep getting into a "rut". Even when I'm gung-ho, I still find a rut. HATE it. Wish I would just kick myself in the bum repeatedly . . . LOL.

GREAT post today - I've been there so many times! You can do it!
