Snow Day Update...And The Arrival of My New Friend

Dear Diary...

Well, this morning I was a little scattered with the whole snow day fiasco..and if it wasn't for going back and reading what I wrote this morning, I wouldn't have remembered a word of it.

I ended up staying home from work.  Hubby called me about 7:15 and told me that the roads were very slippery and he'd seen a few accidents so he didn't want me driving.  I had no argument.  The thought of driving with any amount of snow on the ground causes me to have panic attacks.  I just can't deal.  Seeing the snow coming down as fast as it was caused me to almost throw up.  I'm just glad that Hubby knows this about me - and was able to recognize that I would be a total disaster if I tried to get to work.

Butter and Jelly were happy.  Peanut?  Not so much.  She hates missing school.  It's something I love about her, but I wish she wouldn't make me feel so guilty about it.  It could have been a life or death decision that I made this morning, but all she thinks about is not seeing her friends for another day and the homework she's now going to have.  I am still shocked that my school district was the only school district in the county to open.  Completely and utterly shocked.  Especially since the snow and freezing rain didn't stop until around noon.  Oh well, there's nothing I can do about it now.  Apparently everyone made it to work safely and home again, but I still didn't want to chance it.

So, I spent the day on the couch watching Twilight movies with Peanut.  That was, until my new friend arrived.  Who's that new friend, you ask?  Well, it's Siri.  She came packed in a nice new iPhone 4S.  The UPS guy apparently didn't have any problems delivering stuff today - although he did slide down my driveway quite a bit.  I was so happy to see him - more happy to get my new phone.  Since he arrived and Hubby got out of bed, I've been playing with my phone.

Once I got all my apps and stuff transferred over, I immediately started messing with Siri.  The female version and I just didn't get along too well.  I decided to change it over to a British guy instead.  Makes me feel a lot more at home.  He didn't misunderstand what I was asking for, or keep asking me to repeat my commands.  He's gotten everything I've asked in the first try.  He even answered how much wood a woodchuck could chuck if a wood chuck could chuck wood.  The answer is 42, he thinks.  All playing aside, the Siri feature will be great while I'm working out.  I won't have to keep taking my phone off my arm to read messages or change my music - I can just ask him to do it, and he will.

For the rest of the evening, I will be doing a whole lot of nothing.  I was supposed to be in the gym right now, or on my way out the door from the gym.  The weather messed with that, but I'm going tomorrow.  Definitely. I know that the Biggest Loser weigh in tomorrow morning will be a disaster - and will probably cost me a couple of dollars.  Same story for my Wednesday weigh-in, I'm sure.  This week, no more excuses allowed.  My sickness is gone.  The weather will be gone by tomorrow.  I will be in the gym all week.

Oh, and I decided on something I'm going to buy myself with my bingo winnings.  A new pair of work-out shoes.  A nice pair.  I don't remember the last time I owned a pair of name brand tennis shoes.  So, I'm going to Academy Sports this weekend, and I'm going to splurge on a nice pair of training shoes.  I've picked out a pair of Sketchers that I really like...
Aren't they cute?  I really like them.  And they're not really that expensive.  Of course, I have to try them on and get a feel for them before I buy.  I think it's a great way to spend some of my money.  They are training shoes, specially made for working out.  It will be a nice step up from my Target brand tennis shoes - not that there's anything wrong with them.  But I admit, I will feel special having a "proper" pair of work-out shoes.

Alright, I need to start thinking about making some dinner.

Till next time. ;)

  1. Just be careful when buying training shoes for the purpose of working out. When I started, I was wearing my ordinary trainers, and constantly had shin splints and pains in my knees and hips. After that my dad recommended I switch to running shoes such as Asics, and I haven't had a single problem since. Even my old knee injury doesn't hurt a fraction as much as it used to. :)

    1. Thanks! I will definitely keep that in mind. I've owned a couple pairs of shoes that did my knees in. I was told that I needed more support around my arch, and more cushion on the sole. I've been researching those things - and not just going for cuteness. ;)

The shoes I have now are training shoes - but a cheap pair. I have running shoes, but they hurt my feet and ankles. I have very flat feet that cause pain if there's too much cushion in the arch or if the arch is too high - which tends to be the case in running shoes. Training shoes are flatter, which is what I need. But I will definitely keep your advice with me when I'm out shopping this weekend!
