Right now it's 6:44am. In my head, it's 7:44am. Yes, it's Daylight Savings Time. Last night I got an extra hour of sleep, but got up an hour earlier - so did I really? Bonus points if you figure that riddle out..HA!
Either way - 6:44, 7:44...I'm still out of bed before 8am on a Sunday. What is happening to me? My kids didn't wake me up. Hubby didn't wake me up. I woke up all by myself. People tell me all the time - as you get older, you get up earlier. OK, fair enough, but I'm 28 and already getting up this early on the weekends - what time will I be getting up when I'm 60?? YIKES!!
OK, so three guesses what I'm going to be doing today - and you probably won't need the second two. If you guessed doing homework - then you are absolutely right. I didn't get as much done yesterday as I hoped to. I got a little side-tracked...well, a lot side-tracked. My mom came over to pick up Prairie Dawn to go and spend the night with her. Then, I took my brother and Zoe to Wal-Mart to pick up a few things because my house was a little bare of food. Then I came home and went back to work for a couple of hours. The whole time, Zoe was constantly asking me for things and wanting to play and talking - not exactly the prime scenario to concentrate. Then I had to cook dinner - and after dinner, I got the "lazies" and ended up staying on the couch for the rest of the evening watching TV. *SIGH*
Today isn't going to be much better. I have to take my brother home and pick up Prairie before noon. That means I will be driving to Oklahoma around 10:30, be home about 1:30. Then I will hopefully be able to get back to doing some work.
I have to admit, I'm getting a little nervous about actually finishing everything before it's due. I'm either going to have to really buckle down -or I'm going to have to think of another plan. I'm thinking that I'm going to have to start staying after at work, just to get some peace and quiet. That's one of my biggest challenges right now. It's very hard to concentrate on this much work with a 2 year old in the house - well, with a 2 year old, a 9 year old, a 10 year old, and a 30 year old....they all deliver an equal amount of distractions.
I'm really tired of writing about homework. I know you're probably tired of reading about it. When my world is consumed with homework - it doesn't leave much else to write about. I'm so sorry that for the past couple of days I've done nothing but whine about how much I have to do. I make this promise: I will not write about homework for the rest of the week.

Keep the Coffee Coming
It's Saturday morning. Some may be celebrating the coming of the weekend by sleeping in. Other's may be preparing themselves for a day out with the family. Me? I am celebrating and preparing - to stay in my office all day and getting as much school work done as possible.
OK, so I'm not exactly celebrating. Of course, there are much more enjoyable things I'd rather be spending my weekend doing - but having the chance to sit in my office all day and really pound away at some work is also exciting. Being that I'm drowning in how much work there is to be done - knowing that I have some time to work on it keeps me positive that I will get caught up.
Due to the current rearranging that has been taking place in my house, my "office" now consists of a corner of the room. It's neatly organized. I have everything I need at my fingertips. I'm just missing one important thing - a coffee maker. Coffee is my fuel. It is my savor while I try to find every ounce of motivation in me to get the work completed. Luckily, my office is next to the kitchen - so it's only a short walk to the "refill" station. No doubt I will go through a couple of pots today alone. There's something about having a cup of coffee in my hand when I'm at a point where I can't think anymore. I can hold the warm cup in my hand, stare at the screen, take a sip, and BAM the thought comes to me.
I wonder how many of you reading this are thinking "why is she wasting time writing a blog if she should be working on her homework?" If you're one of those people - I understand. I ask myself that same question all of the time. However, just like my coffee is the fuel that keeps me going - my blog is the fuel that gets me started. I sit down in front of my computer wondering what the heck to start on first. Then I remember - my blog. My blog is my routine. It's how I start each and every day. Ideas pop in to my head as I type. The mental block I feel every day comes unclogged by pounding away here. Have you ever wondered why my blog posts are so random? Have you ever wondered how I start off in one direction, and end up in a completely different subject? That's because I don't plan what I'm going to write about. I just let my fingers do the talking - and what ends up on this screen is the mental block releasing. Sometimes my posts are good - sometimes not so good. I don't change them, though, because that's the whole process. It's all about just getting something out - anything - and then I know that I can start my work and the thoughts that need to come will be there.
So, I'm feeling like the mental block is now gone for today. I can start my work with confidence this morning. I know that I will be able to open my books, open my faithful Microsoft Word, and get the words to flow. Hubby is now in my office with me. It's nice to have a little company. I was worried that he would be a bit of a distraction - but that doesn't seem to be the case. It's nice looking over and seeing him there - I just don't get to spend much time with him anymore. So, I'm looking forward to my day. I'm ready to get to work - and hopefully tomorrow I will be praising how much I got accomplished. Fingers crossed.

Parenting Union Anyone?
I've said it many times before, I say it again today: Parenting is the hardest job on the planet! I don't think there is another job that expects so much and pays so little...well, except for student teaching - but hopefully that will eventually start to pay once I graduate.
There isn't another job on the planet that allows these kinds of working conditions! I'm the boss - but I can't fire anyone, I can't give anyone a raise either. I work way too many hours, but there's no overtime benefits, no sick time, no vacation, I go to my second job really as a break from my first - but will be expected to catch up on my missed duties when I return.
Where's the parenting union? I want to talk to someone about this. If I hear another person tell me how "easy" parenting is - I will lose it.
OK - so you're probably picking up on the vibe that I'm a little stressed. If you didn't - well that was the intention. Just when I thought things with Grover were getting better - BAM something happens...something big. I'm not going to go into too much detail about it - I'm just very frustrated. I'm more frustrated about why he does what he does. He has been doing really great in school - I got his report card the other day, and he's finally making all A's. I was so happy. I think that we're finally in the clear - something has sparked inside of him to make him want to be better....only to be smashed in the face with another problem.
I walk through the door yesterday, after a really good day, and I'm bombarded. Prairie Dawn is crying. Hubby is fuming - I'm pretty sure I saw steam coming out of his ears. Grover is standing in front of me - the look on his face that tells me he's responsible for the sight before me. I don't even have a chance to put my things down before the explanation begins. After five minutes of explanation, I have to start making phone calls. I have to find out more details, I have to extinguish some fires, all before even sitting down. Then I have to discuss everything I've found out with Grover - who immediately denies everything. I'm mad, very mad by this point. Even though I know without a shadow of a doubt that he did what he did - he's not going to 'fess up. I have to stand there and listen to him lie.
As a teacher - a situation like the one I dealt with would be handled by the parent. I can make a phone call, tell the parent what their child did, my involvement is over. As a parent, I have to deal with the problem. I have to try and figure out what happened, talk to all parties involved, weigh out the evidence and then give my verdict. I'm detective, prosecuting attorney, and judge. Once again - no big fat pay check for me....oh no, I get paid in stress - yay for me!
The situation I'm dealing with right now is big. Too big for me to explain in my blog - which is hard for me, because I really don't mind spilling everything out here. Today, I just have to rant on about what's going on - but can't divulge the actual problem. Today I will have to try and get through my day and then no doubt I will be dealing with it again once work is over. *SIGH* What a great way to start the weekend.
OK - I must get ready for work...the other work.

Kind of Proud of Myself
Feeling pretty good this morning. After a very long day at work yesterday, I pushed myself to go and work-out. My cardio circuit work-out buddies told me that they were changing the days around this week - and that they were working out last night instead of Friday night. That's great for me, because on Wednesdays I don't have to rush off to pick Zoe up from daycare.
So, I went to Cardio-Circuits. The circuits have increased in difficulty since I've been away - that, or I've decreased in stamina and strength...which is probably the more likely of the two. The circuits had some weight work, some mountain climbers, some yoga, and some high knee running and kicks. It was really tough to get through all of the circuits three times, but I did. I felt really happy when I finished - so happy that I decided to go to the track and do a 1 mile power-walk...just for good measure.
While I was walking, I remembered how much I enjoyed coming out to the track. I really miss the thoughts that pop into my head while I'm walking or running. I remember things, I realize things - and most importantly I really enjoy doing it. While I was out walking, I really started to give myself a hard time about not getting more work-outs in, not going to the track every day, and wasting a very big opportunity to win a contest that could give me some well needed cash.
I think I've gotten to the point, now, where I know that I'm not going to win the Biggest Loser competition. I can't expect to win after wasting the entire competition doing nothing - and then trying to push myself hard the last week or two. I know that there are some competitors that have been working really hard the whole time - I can tell by looking at them. It's disappointing - but not because I will lose after working hard, I'm disappointed that I knew I could win - if I just did what I needed to do. It's my own fault that I wasted the opportunity - there's nothing I can do about it now. I will still weigh in on the final day - just because I don't want to be a sore loser.
Enough with all that stuff - I started out the post positive - I want to stay that way. I really enjoyed my walk last night - the cooler air made for a very refreshing feeling after working out so hard in the gym. I'm kind of thinking that I might check out the Couch to 5K thing that I've heard a lot about. I want to start running again. I know that I've lost the stamina that I had a few months ago - when I was running a full mile in about 12 minutes. I very much doubt that I could run 1/2 a mile, now. It's amazing to me how quickly you can lose something - if you don't keep working at it. So, no definite plans right now - just something I'm rolling around in my head.
Today, I'm going to class. It's kind of my "day off" because I get to go to school in my sweats, work on my projects, and see Sanity - that's a great part of class day. Hopefully we'll get to have our weekly "catch-up" after school - because we haven't been able to the past couple of weeks. I miss that, because it's therapeutic. We sit and chat for a couple of hours - share what we've been up to, things that are bothering us, things we're excited about... it definitely saves us both visits to a professional counselor. Being that I will be in sweats and tennis shoes - I might just go for a walk after our chat...no promises, but I'm thinking about it.
Everyone have a great Thursday!!

What's Up with the Christmas Decorations Already?
I apologize in advance for my very random post this morning. Then again, the past week I've written about the weather, missing my parents, and moving my house around - guess it's just another regular post. HA!
So, Monday morning, I'm driving to work. On my way I see something shining from a window of a house I always drive by. As I get closer I literally say out loud "please don't be what I think it is" but sure enough - it was - a Christmas tree. There it was, lit up, shining out the window for all to see. After work, I had to go to a meeting at Grover's school. On my way there, I drove through "down-town" and there were Christmas lights on all of the buildings. They were on, and I saw several "Seasons Greetings" signs as I'm driving. Not on stores, wanting Christmas patrons, just randomly hanging from street signs and light poles.
I'm driving to work yesterday morning. I roll my eyes as I drive by Christmas tree house, and then a couple of miles further out loud I say "you have GOT to be kidding me!" There was a different house, completely decked out with Christmas lights. Not just around the house - on all of the bushes and trees. There was a lit up Santa on the roof, and pretty candy-canes lining the drive-way. *Insert another eye-roll.*
Now I know that there isn't a rule book that outlines the appropriate day for hanging Christmas decorations. I just can't believe people are starting to decorate the day after Halloween!! I grew up in a house that hung the Christmas tree exactly twelve days before Christmas. Being from England, that's the tradition - you know, cause of the song I guess. When I moved to America, I kind of liked the idea of hanging the decorations the day after Thanksgiving. When I was grown, and able to decorate when I wanted - that's what I did. Having a full month to celebrate Christmas is great. Sitting by the crackling fire by the dim and blinking of the Christmas lights, drinking a hot cup of cocoa....that's getting into the spirit.
My mind just can't get around the Christmas decorations NOW though. I've grown to live with the stores getting the "Christmas Shoppes" ready in mid October - sometimes earlier than that. I try to avoid those parts of the stores until after Halloween. I understand that stores are wanting people to start thinking about Christmas early, so they'll start spending money - and all that jazz. What I didn't expect was for people to rush home with their Christmas decorations - on Halloween weekend - and get their houses all a-glow for the holiday season - two months in advance!
Now, I'm nobody special to tell people when they should or shouldn't hang their decorations. This is my personal opinion - and being that this is my blog, I guess I can kind of post my personal opinion. I'm not a Scrooge - in fact, Christmas is my favorite time of the year. I count the days down to Thanksgiving, when I can start decorating. It's become quite the tradition to kick everyone out of the house after a great meal, and then the kids and I working into late in the evening getting the tree up - and making our house a Winter Wonderland. I just don't see the significance of doing it this early. Yes, I'm repeating myself - I'm hoping that maybe if I say "I don't get it" enough times - maybe I'll start to get it. Not working, yet!
Around here, the weather is starting to cool off. This week, the weather is going to hit the mid-sixties all week - which is pretty chilly. Maybe people are letting the cooler weather get to their heads and thinking that it's better to hang the lights outside, while it's not freezing outside...I get that, I really do. Just because you hang the lights, though - you don't have to turn them on. I don't know - I'm going on and on....just something that has made me say "hmmm" this week.

Hello Mother, Hello Father
This morning, as I sat down here at my desk - like I always do - I got this weird, unusual feeling in my stomach. Gas? Urm, no - but thanks for asking. It's a feeling I haven't had in many, many years. It's kind of hard to explain, really. The best way I could describe it is the feeling a small child gets when they go off to camp - not really homesick, but missing Mom and Dad.
I realized this morning, that the last time I saw my parents was on October 9th, for my sister's birthday dinner. It's been over 3 weeks since I've seen them. What's even worse is the fact that in those three weeks, I've only spoken to my mom twice on the phone.
Now, that may not sound like a big deal to some people - but to me: it is. For as long as I can remember, I spoke to my mom every single day on the phone. I visited them at least every other weekend. During the summer, I was at their house just as much as I was at my own. Looking at the calendar, now, and realizing that since school started I've seen them about three times - and spoken to my mom once every couple of weeks, is like a swift punch in the gut.
I've always been very close to my parents - even more so since myself and my siblings have grown up and moved on with our lives. I'm the oldest of six children. My parents still have two children that live at home. The rest of us are all grown, all but one have kids. My brothers live hours away - and my mom receives a phone call from them occasionally. My sister lives the closest to my mom - but she's...urm...well, a handful - and my mom prefers to only visit when it's a necessity...like when my sister needs something (about once every couple of weeks).
Despite being in college the past three years, working most of that time, and raising three kids - I've ALWAYS had time for my parents. That is, of course, until August - when my student teaching started. My mom knows that I'm very busy, and she has been extremely supportive through the experience thus far, but now I'm sitting here missing her - missing them...both of my parents. I really feel like a child - but I've never been able to go this long without at least talking to my mom on the phone.
When I moved to Texas, way back when, the main thing that brought me home was the fact that I missed my parents too much. I just couldn't stand being a 12 hour car ride away. I called my mom every single day while I was there - and we would talk for at least an hour. Yes, every single day, I could find enough stuff to talk to my mom about for an hour!! I'm almost an hour drive away now - but it's a drive I very willingly took on most weekends. The two phone conversations I've had with my mom the past two weeks have not been the usual phone calls. The first one was an hour long - a good "catch-up" talk. The second was a quick 10 minute call - an inquiry about something going on.
My mom finally broke down and got texting a few months back - and now she feels the need to text me before she calls - just to see if I'm not too busy to talk. That didn't bother me when she did it - but now, as I sit here, I think how horrible that must be for her. Who wants to text their child before calling to see if she has enough time to break away from her hectic life for a 5 minute phone conversation?
So, as I sit in my house, drinking my coffee, and preparing myself for the day - I feel homesick. Yes, I'm home..my home..but I miss my parents. I don't like being too busy for them. I liked being the one child that is never too busy to visit, never too busy for a phone call...always connected. My younger siblings are also feeling the wrath of my life. My teenage siblings used to stay at my house quite a bit. Now, my brother texts me almost every night - but almost every night, I've told him that I have work to do and I really don't have time to talk....HOW HORRIBLE IS THAT?? I couldn't even begin to tell you what's going on in my youngest sister's life - because I haven't taken a single second to reach out. We used to text each other - quite frequently - but the last text I received from her was October 9th - the same day as her birthday dinner.
I don't like being that way. I'm not going to be like my brothers - who think that a couple of phone calls a year are sufficient in regards to "staying in touch". I don't want my mom to think that she's bothering me if she calls. I don't want my brother thinking that I'm too busy to hear about his day. So, today is the day to change that. This weekend, I don't care how busy I am - I'm going to see my parents. Today, I'm going to call my mom. Maybe the nasty feeling in my stomach will start to disappear.

Till next time. ;)

Weekend Gone So Soon?
Where the heck did the weekend go? One minute I'm walking out the door of work, welcoming the chance to get some much needed work done over the weekend - and BAM it's Monday morning. Any chance for a do-over? No? Dang.
Don't you just love it when the weekend goes by so fast? I had my whole weekend planned out: wedding, homework, lesson plans, laundry, cleaning, etc. etc. Well - I went to the wedding, and I did my laundry. I'm pretty sure I had two full days of weekend - just like everyone else - so what the heck happened?
I know what happened - Hubby happened. He decided that this weekend would be a great day to do some reorganizing of our house. Thanks, dear Hubby!!
As of right now, his "office" is in the back half of the living room. For Mother's Day this year, he gave me the spare room in our house to be my office. Being that I was working out so much, my office also doubled as the home gym. Well, when he gave me the room, I guess it was temporary. Now, he wants to move into my office with me - making the room a dual office - and put all of the work-out equipment in the back half of the living room. He had the spill ready for me. "Well, now you will be able to work-out and watch TV. You always said you would like to be able to watch TV while you are on the treadmill". Yeah, that's true. What I meant by that was - buy me a TV for my office. Guess I wasn't direct enough with my hints. *SIGH*
So, now the house looks like we're moving. There are boxes of stuff everywhere. My treadmill and stair stepper are in the kitchen. The back half of the living room is in complete disarray as he is sorting all of his stuff to be moved. I now have the fantastic job of sorting all of Zoe's toys that have been in Hubby's office since she was born - and find somewhere to put them - so we can get the rest of the moving done.
I'm pretty ticked off that I didn't get any work done this weekend - that I had planned. I have a two big projects due in less than five weeks - and I'm about two weeks behind. I didn't take my kids trick-or-treating this year, because Mommy had so much work to get done...I really didn't mean moving rooms and rearranging furniture.
Well, Hubby better get some work done this week while I'm gone. I will NOT be wasting - yeah, I said it - WASTING another weekend next week. It's bad enough that I'm going to be in my office every night this week trying to get caught up with the stuff I had planned to do over the weekend. This is really where the office TV would of come in handy. It means another week of staying up late, and getting up even earlier.
Oh well, just three more weeks and I get a full week off. Let me rephrase that. I get a full week of staying at home to work. Because of how behind I am - it looks as though I will be working all the way through Thanksgiving break. Yay me!!
OK - enough whining and complaining. I signed up for this - not Hubby. It's not his fault. It's Monday - I don't like to start my week off with a rant. I know I'll get the work finished - I always do. I actually think his rearranging plan is a good one. He's right about me wanting to watch TV while I work out. Maybe this move is just what I needed to get my butt back on the treadmill. Positive thoughts, positive thoughts. We'll be able to spend more time together - even if it is while I'm pounding away at my work while he plays computer games - or whatever it is he does on his computer. It's going to be good. It will mean more room in the living room. Less clutter. A reason to get rid of some of Zoe's toys. Good preparation for Thanksgiving - as I will once again be hosting the event at my house. There, that's better. Rant is gone - week is starting. Happy Monday, everyone!!
