Friday's Letters

I've really enjoyed writing these little letters for the past couple of weeks, so I think I'm going to keep them as a regular feature on here...until I run out of people/things to write to.  It really is a great way to release some stress and make me smile - and I can use as much of that as possible.  So, here goes...

Dear Weather Man - This is the 3rd week in a row I've written to you.  Now, you finally tell me that there is a chance we might get rain next Monday.  You better not be messing with me.  Getting in to my parent's pool, and the water being hotter than the water I use to take a bath just isn't right.  We need rain.  We need relief from the constant blasts of 100 degree plus weather.  I'm pretty sure you're the only person in the area that cares about the records we're breaking.  I don't want to hear about anymore freakin' records unless it's because we're having the coldest day in summer we've ever seen.  Got me?

Dear Personal Trainer I Will Be Meeting With on Tuesday - I'm warning you up front that you are going to have to be really hard on me.  I made the commitment to meet with you, now make the commitment to make me work hard.  Harder than I've ever worked before.  I need a boot-camp mentality, and niceness won't get you anywhere.  Oh, and don't just show me how to use the equipment in the gym...make me actually get on each piece of equipment and make me burn calories.  I don't need a gym tour guide.  And I'm also expecting to take a work-out plan away with me, m'kay?

Dear Woman Holding Up the Line at Wal-Mart Yesterday - How many freakin' times did that poor girl have to tell you that they can't put copyrighted images on cakes?  It doesn't matter how many different ways you alter the same question, the answer is still NO!  And turning around to apologize for holding up the line just annoyed me even more...especially since you said you had "just one more question" and then continued to ask her about almost every cake they had on display.  It's a Wal-Mart bakery for crying out loud...if you want custom, fancy, flavored fillings, etc. go visit a professional bakery.  Let us poor people waiting to really ask ONE question do that and move along.  Oh, and don't then try and make small talk with me after you've finally stepped aside, especially when that small talk is giving me advice on where I can find what I'm looking for.  That's the question I just asked the bakery lady, and the same answer she just gave me.

Dear Peanut - Thank you for coming to the gym with me yesterday and really making me work hard.  It was really nice to have you along side me and making me realize that I still have some fight left in me.  Getting through 30 minutes of circuit training and then doing 25 minutes on the elliptical made me feel fantastic...and it was nice to see you give me a run for my money.

Dear Planet Fitness - Thank you for playing awesome music while I'm trying to work-out.  There's nothing better than singing along with some old Madonna songs while I'm pounding away.  It totally kept my mind off of how hard the exercises were.  Also, thanks for the trashy TV shows that you play while I'm on the elliptical.  I got to check out the new Mrs. Eastwood show on E!  While I'd never watch it at home, it did help the 25 minutes on the elliptical fly by.

Dear Scale - Thank you for being nice to me this morning.  Even though I know I can't get an accurate weight by standing on you every day, it is nice to see a drop since yesterday.  Being that yesterday was my first day of good eating and working out, it was nice to see you cooperating with me and giving me some added motivation for today.  If you keep doing this, we may be friends again after all.

Dear Classroom Books that I Still Need to Pack - I know I was really excited to start packing you up a couple of weeks ago, but now it's just getting old.  After packing 5 boxes of books, and still having piles of books around me... I'm just getting tired of it.  I have so much other stuff that wants to be packed, and I'm spending all of my time on you.  Well, today is the day the book packing is being finished.  And if anyone in this house brings me one more book to add to my collection, I'm going to scream.  I'm pretty sure 500+ books is plenty to get me started.  NO MORE BOOKS!

Dear People In My House - Yes, I'm cooking dinner today.  And I swear if I hear one rude comment, snide remark, or slither of sarcasm, you'll be eating cat food for dinner.  I know I don't cook very often, but when I do - I expect you to enjoy it and shut the hell up.  I work hard when I cook fancy dinners like I'm cooking today.  And I'm even making a homemade Tiramisu for dessert.  You better respect my hard work, or again...you'll be eating dinner with the cat.  Take my rare moments of culinary creation as a privilege - not a right.

Dear Blog Readers - I know that my blog posts have been dry, repetitive, and down right depressing lately.  Or for the past several months.  I apologize.  Just be assured that I meant what I said in my post yesterday.  I am really going to do it this time.  I don't expect you to take my word for it... I've let you down too many times.  I understand that.  But don't give up on me.  Just keep coming back, and soon you'll start to see that what I say is true.  And don't be thrown off with the mention of me making Tiramisu for dessert - it's a low-fat recipe.  I went to the gym yesterday, my house is stocked with healthy foods, and I'm ready to buckle down and just get it done.

Till next time. ;)

  2. Hi - I found your blog through following a bunch of links. I'm a teacher also, although I haven't been able to find a full time position in my area. They keep firing teachers instead of hiring us new ones.

Anyway, I zoned in on the line in this post about a personal trainer having to be hard on you. Have you ever tried CrossFit? Those trainers don't take any BS and since the workouts constantly change, they don't get boring. It's changed my life.

  3. Whoo hoo! Get'er done. I'm totally with ya. I like the idea of the letters too. That may just help me for when I need a blog idea to talk about. What also helps me with blog topics are the pix I see on Facebook; I just save them in a file for when my brain runs dry.
